Bespoke Wooden Windows and French Doors for Malta and Sicily

Bring the warmth of real wood and the character of Sicilian craftsmanship into your home. Milito Infissi makes bespoke wooden windows and French doors in Giarratana, Sicily, for properties in Malta, Gozo and across Sicily.

For the renovation of an old Sicilian farmhouse or country house, we shape new windows around the traditional character of the building. Sicilian internal shutters, or scuri, are a central part of this approach, with profiles, panels and finishes chosen to sit naturally alongside the stonework. Specify your timber, colour, glazing and opening style, with the option of traditional Sicilian internal shutters. Buy directly from the family workshop that makes your windows.

Wooden windows shaped around your home

The right window belongs to the building, both inside and out. We shape the proportions, frame profiles and finishing details around your rooms, the façade and the way you want each opening to work.

Timber casement windows, from classic to contemporary

Choose wooden casement windows with one or more opening leaves, coordinated with fixed glazing where required. Traditional mouldings can complement a stone house, while simpler profiles suit contemporary interiors. Tilt-and-turn openings can be specified where compatible with the selected window design.

Wooden French doors for balconies, terraces and gardens

French doors bring daylight into the room and create a welcoming connection to a balcony, terrace or garden. Choose the arrangement of glazed panels, handles and lower sections to suit your home. For our traditional Sicilian French doors with internal shutters, solid lower panels complete the design and coordinate with the shutter panels above.

Sicilian internal shutters: privacy and darkness from indoors

White wooden French doors with closed panelled internal shutters and solid lower panels.

Our solid wooden internal shutters, known in Sicily as scuri or scuretti, are fitted to the room side of the window or French door. They become part of the joinery itself: a practical way to close off daylight and enjoy privacy, with the warmth and detail of real wood.

Windows with scuri for Sicilian farmhouses

In the countryside around Ragusa and Syracuse, the depth of a stone reveal, the size of a window opening and the layout of its panels all influence the result. We use photographs, surviving details and your architect’s drawings to develop new solid wood windows and French doors with a traditional Sicilian appearance.

Choose flat or raised shutter panels, coordinated mouldings and suitable hardware finishes. The period appearance can be combined with insulating glazing and the opening options agreed for your home.

Close the shutters without opening the glazing

Operate the scuretti comfortably from inside the room while keeping the glazed window or French door closed. When fully closed, the solid panels cover the glazing to create darkness for rest and sleep. Open them again to reveal the view and welcome daylight back into your home.

Because the shutters open into the room, they do not require an external shutter leaf to swing over a narrow lane or pavement. It is a useful detail for compact façades, traditional townhouses and historic streets.

Panel styles and fittings that belong together

Choose simple flat panels or more detailed raised panels, coordinated with the window, trims and handles. Traditional turn catches, called tavellini, secure the shutters closed. Their finish can be coordinated with the hinges and other fittings for a carefully considered result.

Comfort you can feel every day

A beautiful wooden window should feel reassuring when you close it and comfortable to live with throughout the year. We bring the frame, glazing, seals and hardware together as a complete specification, selected around your home.

Three weather seals as standard

Our wooden windows have three elastomeric weather seals as standard, within a triple-rebate closing arrangement. A close-fitting frame, resilient seals and careful installation work together to keep draughts out and support protection against wind-driven rain. The finished installation matters as much as the components you choose.

Glazing selected for your rooms

Choose insulating glazing around the room's orientation, exposure and comfort requirements. Low-emissivity glass helps reduce heat loss, while solar-control options help manage incoming solar heat. Acoustic and laminated safety glass can be specified where appropriate; the interlayer in laminated glass helps hold fragments together if the glass breaks.

G-U hardware matched to the opening

We select G-U window hardware around the dimensions, weight and operation of the opening. Handles, hinges and locking points work together with the timber frame, with opening options and hardware finishes agreed as part of your order.

Where a tilt-and-turn opening is specified, a DK (tilt-and-turn) handle operates both the side-hung opening and the inward tilt position. The handle style and finish can be coordinated with the internal shutter catches and other fittings.

Extra Gold options for enhanced security

Where increased resistance to forced entry is a priority, ask about our Extra Gold range. We discuss reinforced hardware, multiple locking points and suitable security glazing as part of the complete window or French door configuration, including designs with internal shutters where compatible.

First-choice solid wood, colours and carefully finished details

Okoumé, oak and Accoya®

Our windows and French doors are made exclusively from first-choice solid wood, including Okoumé, oak and Accoya®. We select the material for the design, finish and exposure of your project. Choose a painted finish or a timber tone that lets the grain become part of the room.

Our four-coat Long Protection finishing cycle

Careful hand preparation and sanding bring out the quality of the finished joinery. Our four-coat, water-based Long Protection cycle protects the timber and gives the surface a refined appearance, whether you prefer natural wood tones or painted colours. We explain the care appropriate to the finish and location you choose.

Proportions, mouldings and handles chosen together

Coordinate glazing bars, shaped mouldings, trims, handles and internal shutters instead of treating them as separate decisions. Different internal and external colours can be discussed where required, so your windows complement both the façade and your interior.

Questions before you choose your windows

What is the difference between a wooden window and a French door?

A window brings light and ventilation into a room, usually above a sill. A French door is a hinged glazed door that also provides access to a balcony, terrace or garden. We make both to measure, with coordinated profiles, colours and optional internal shutters.

Can I order wooden windows with solid internal shutters?

Yes. We make wooden windows and French doors with integrated Sicilian scuretti. You operate the shutters from inside while the glazing stays closed. The panel layout, catches and finish are selected to coordinate with the joinery.

Are internal shutters the same as external wooden shutters?

No. Internal shutters sit on the room side of the glazing and open into the room. External louvred or solid boarded shutters are fitted outside the window. We help you choose the arrangement around privacy, light control, available space and the appearance of the façade.

Which timber should I choose for a coastal property?

We assess the location, exposure, design and finish together. Okoumé, oak and Accoya® are among the options we discuss, with the specification and care instructions suited to the project. Hardware and installation details also need to be considered for an exposed coastal position.

Can you supply wooden windows to Malta and Gozo?

Yes. We manufacture bespoke joinery in Sicily for supply to Malta and Gozo. Send us your property location, plans or photographs so we can discuss the products, measurements, packing, delivery and installation arrangements before production.

How much do bespoke wooden windows and French doors cost?

The price depends on dimensions, timber, opening arrangement, glazing, finish and the addition of internal shutters. Delivery and fitting are also defined for your project. Send approximate measurements and photographs for an initial quotation directly from our workshop.
